I once heard the saying, “Only in America do we get in our car and drive five miles to the gym to walk a mile on the treadmill.” That’s a funny example of how we tend to make things more complicated than they need to be! I used to see this happen a lot when I was a personal trainer at the health club. The new year would bring throngs of strangers to the club who puffed and panted everyday until they suddenly disappeared a month later.

I used to joke with my clients about how they were “Strong like bull!” after they did a set of pushups or bench presses. There’s no doubt that our bodies can do amazing feats of strength. And, there’s no questioning the more muscle we have going into our later years, the better our health and quality of life will be. However, ageless strength is more about allowing yourself to be vulnerable, standing up for inconvenient truths, or getting back up every time you fall. It is an inner power that is always available to you and the more you lean on it, the stronger you are.
