full of cheerfulness or gaiety; joyous disposition or spirit; full of mirth; causing happiness and delight; marked by lighthearted ease of mind and spirit (Webster’s New Universal Unabridged Dictionary)

blithe, boon, cheery, festive, frolicsome, gay, glad, gleeful, happy, jocund, jolly, jovial, lighthearted, mirthful, pleasant

To be merry is to have lightness of heart, which is the fountain of youth.  It is also having largeness of heart—giving generously & joyfully of yourself, just because it makes you smile inside and out.  Merriness is an enthusiastic attitude about life, freeing you from being fearful of time or harmed by loss.  Instead of struggling against the current, you choose to float gently down the stream.  And, even though your skin may sag and wrinkle with time, the youthful twinkle in your eyes always shines through.
