Have you ever had a brain fart? You know, those dumbfounded moments (some longer than others) when your brain short circuits, and fogs up your thoughts or poofs them right out of your head! Well, I’ve had my share, especially with menopause.
The great news is we can keep them to a minimum. All we have to do is challenge our minds just like our muscles. Our brains continue to grow neurons throughout our lifespan, and they continually reshape themselves in response to what we learn. So, it’s never too late to learn something new. (No old dogs here!)
Make it a habit to stimulate your mind every day, whether it’s reading, doing crossword puzzles or suduko, watching a play, or learning a new language or musical instrument. Always be curious!
One of the ways I’ve been working on my brain smarts is by doing daily brain teasers. I found a great site, www.braingle.com that has tons of puzzles and brain games to keep you guessing. Here’s a sample of one of their teasers to get you going…
Behead 19
When you behead a word, you remove the first letter and still have a valid word. You will be given clues for the two words, longer word first.
Example: Begin -> Sour, acidic
Answer: The words are Start and Tart.
1. Shut -> Misplace; fail
2. Open -> Glass container
3. Unusual; lightly cooked -> They exist
4. Prevent from spoiling -> Holding back
5. Broken glass -> Unyielding

1. Close -> Lose
2. Ajar -> Jar
3. Rare -> Are
4. Preserve -> Reserve
5. Shard -> Hard
